The program of “Artist in Residence”, as is it defined in the international art community, usually implies art projects that combine two elements: a research into the site-specific space (city, park, industrial site etc.) and a unique work of art that appeared as a result of this research.
This year the Ural Industrial Biennial has introduced the format of “Artist in Residence” for the first time ever, inviting artists to work in the Ural region.
Artists from different countries such as the USA, Russia, France were invited to work on the “Artist in Residence” projects and they will travel to the Ural region to create unique works of art rooted in the local context. Most of these projects will be completed before the official opening of the 2nd Ural Industrial Biennial. The exhibition presenting the results of the “Artist in Residence” projects will be held during the vernissage week of the Biennial. The preliminary “Artist in Residence” opening date in Ekaterinburg is September 14, 2012. The exhibition will be open till October 22, 2012.
